CEIP ANTONIO MACHADO
Maths workshop: 20 face
Once a week, in CEIP Antonio Machado, we use one of maths session to work on workshops. Depending on the course and the topic we want to cultivate, we change the proposal activity.

The workshop explained below was worked with first and second courses of primary education.

1. Aims.

-
To work on the concept od number.
-
To go over numbers and adds.
-
To add up mentally to twenty.
-
To know the maths bars and their value to use them in mathematical tasks.
-
To play in pairs.
-
To follow the game rules.
-
to foster our pupils cooperative learning.

2. Material need.

-
Maths bars boxes.

3. Game.

The main aim of the game is creating "faces" using terminal strips which add not more then twenty.

4. Steps to follow.

-
Step 1. We need to divide the students into pairs.

-
Step 2. Pick up maths bars. Their value must be twenty.

-
Step 3. Create a face (eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows...) using the bars chosen.

-
Step 4. Write down the add of all the bars that justify that their value is twenty.

-
Optional step. When the face is finished we can ask different questions to the pupils: "Which is the value of the bars using to do the eyes/mouth...?"; "How many maths bars do you use?" and so on.
