Maths workshop: Multiply with playing cards
Once a week, in CEIP Antonio Machado, we use one of maths session to work on workshops. Depending on the course and the topic we want to cultivate, we change the proposal activity.
The workshop explained below was worked with the third and the forth courses of primary education.
1. Aims.

To train the multiplication tables.

To go over mental calculation.

To use playing cards in mathematical tasks.

To play in pairs.

To follow the game rules.

to foster our pupils cooperative learning.
. Material need.

Playing cards.
3. Game.
The main aim of the game is getting as many playing cards as possible.
4. Steps to follow.

Step 1. We need to divide the class into pairs.

Step 2. Each pair will have one deck.

Step 3. We give half of playing cars to each member of the pair.

Step 4. Each pupil will take a card at the same time and the card value should be multiply, for example 6x3.

Step 5. The pupil who says the correct answer first, will keep both cards.

Step 6. The winner will be the pupil who gets all the deck.

Optional step. We can prepare a competition in which they should pass different rounds.
